Lamar Baseball Off to Fast Start

The Lamar Consolidated Baseball Team has started the season 5-2 and is in the middle of the LCISD tournament in which they already won their first two games.  The season started on Monday Feb 22 with a 2-0 victory over Columbia.  The Mustangs had a fantastic pitching performance by Ace Blake Whichard who through a complete game shutout with 3 hits and 9 strikeouts.

The next weekend the Lamar varsity traveled to Cuero for the Gobbler Invitational Tournament.  The Mustangs came away from that tournament with a 2-2 record.  The first game was a close loss to La Vernia 4-3, followed by a 5-5 tie with Beeville that the Mustangs won on tie breaker.  The next game was a tough one for the Mustangs as they lost 8-1 to Banquete having trouble scoring the runners that got on base.  The last game of the Cuero Tournament was a big 12-2 run rule victory over Pearsall with Blake Whichard throwing another great game.  The player of the tournament for the Mustangs was Anthony Lentini with 6 hits and a .500 batting average.

In the second week of the season the Mustangs host the LCISD Tournament in which they have already defeated FB Bush (7-3) and HCYA (3-1).  The Mustangs have two more games today and one more tomorrow to finish out the tournament.
