Varsity Falls, JV Wins 12-8
The Lamar Varsity and JV Tennis teams faced off against Calhoun yesterday in the third district match of the season. The Lamar Varsity boys and girls lost in a long match day that lasted until 9:30 last night. Although the tennis team lost, the majority of the matches were closely contested and some mustang athletes came out with impressive victories.
The Line 1 Girls Doubles team of Alexis Rodriguez and Megan Nge took down the Line 1 Calhoun girls 7-6 7-5 in two sets. Chase Moreno also won again for his 2nd district win in singles. Chase won the first set 6-4, lost the second set 3-6, and then won the 3rd set tie breaker 10-3.
Playing over at Foster High Schools courts the Lamar JV team defeated the Calhoun JV Squad 12-8 overall for the first JV District win of the year! The JV victories were highlighted by the boys duo of Cody Garza and David Perez who won their doubles match and then both won their singles matches. Ricky Howell and Marshall Dearmon also won their doubles match and Ricky added a singles win. Other boys winners were Channing Vernon in doubles and singles and Eldiberto Mendoza in Doubles with Channing.
On the girls JV Side Vivian Ma and Melissa Mayberry won Doubles as well as Elizabeth Frazier and Danielle White. In JV girls singles Melissa, Elizabeth, and Danielle all brought home wins to seal the victory vs the Sandcrabs.
