The Lamar Consolidated Tennis Team went to Terry High School on Tuesday for their first District Match of the Season. The Mustangs Varsity and JV were both competing in Double and Singles matches during the Fall Team Tennis Season. The Mustang Varsity came up short against Terry losing in the team competition, but Andrew Espinosa won both his Singles Match and his double match with partner Chase Moreno.
This season has a new format for district games where the opponents will play the best 2 out of 3 sets with the 3rd set (if necessary) being a 10 point tie breaker. Three of our doubles teams forced Terry to the tie breaker, unfortunately all coming up short in that final set. Next week the Varsity will play Angleton at home at the Mustang Tennis Courts.
The JV was also in action playing at George Junior High’s Tennis courts against the Terry JV. The JV Mustangs lost 5 matches to 8, but the result was very impressive for a group of boys and girls with very little tennis experience. JV boys singles winners included Ricky Howell, Marshall Dearmon, Channing Vernon, and Cody Garza, with Marshall Dearmon also winning his double match with partner Victor Cervantes. The JV will play at Angleton next week.
